Andrea Simpson-Fowler
Andrea Simpson-Fowler is the owner and Artistic Director of LFCD
and an active member of the Whitehorse community. She has spent
many years researching and refining her approach to teaching dance.
After pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in dance at Simon
Fraser University, she returned to Whitehorse and opened her own
studio. She sticks to her philosophy that children need to be challenged
intellectually, creatively, and physically in order to experience
all that dance can give. Andrea believes that if children are given
positive encouragement along with challenges, they will learn to
love dance, and will continue to make dance a part of their lives
as adults. Currently, eleven of Andrea's former students are studying
dance at post-secondary institutions, or performing as professional
dancers across Canada. Andrea has also initiated many great community
projects like: Extremely Moving, (a youth repertory and training
program), and Hip Hop Superstars, a camp sponsored by the Women's
Centre (uses dance as a vehicle to help low income teenage girls
become empowered). Amid these projects, Andrea serves as a mentor
to many students interested in choreography and she has guided many
students towards award winning choreographic projects. Andrea has
dedicated much of her time to the growth of dance in the Yukon,
and plans to continue doing so in future years.

Darcy LeBlanc - Instructor
Originally from the East Coast, I got an early start in the world of theatre at the age of 12 when I began touring around the world with Musical Theatre productions. Being exposed to numerous styles of dance and diverse choreographers led to a rich education in dance. After pursuing pre-medical studies at university, I remained dedicated to the Arts: writing, directing, producing and choreographing productions. I later endeavoured a career in Education and continue to teach elementary school where I promote all areas of the arts as important and necessary opportunities for student development and success. |
